A Day In The Life: Rebecca Callinan, Finance Team
Attention to detail in our financial operations ensures we deliver excellent client service. For nearly three years, Rebecca Callinan has played a vital role in our finance team, managing invoice processing that keeps our business moving forward.
How long have you been with Medlec, and what's your role?
I joined Medlec in March 2021. Before this, I worked as a legal secretary in London. The move to Medlec allowed me to use my admin skills in a new industry, while benefiting from a great work-life balance.
Could you walk us through a typical day?
My primary responsibility is managing our invoicing processes. I start each day catching up with colleagues over coffee before focusing on processing invoices. While it might sound straightforward, accurate and timely invoicing is essential to keep the business running smoothly.
What's the best thing about working with the Medlec team?
The people here make every day enjoyable. We have a great team atmosphere that makes work more engaging. We often organise activities together, from escape rooms to office quizzes, especially around Christmas time. It creates a really positive environment.
How has Medlec changed since you joined?
The company has grown significantly. We've expanded into building services alongside our electrical work, positively changing everyone's roles. While I was initially familiar with electrical components, I'm now learning about the building services side too. It's exciting to be part of a growing business.
What aspects of Medlec's future plans excite you?
The fact that we're growing bigger and taking on more work and employees is exciting. If Medlec continues to grow, my colleague and I will end up with a third person in the finance team to help us with invoicing and estimates. It'll be nice to have someone new on the team.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not at work?
Family life keeps me busy - I love spending time with the children. We enjoy planning holidays, from caravan trips to travel abroad. We're planning a big summer holiday next year - possibly Mexico. I've been lucky enough to travel to New Zealand a couple of times, which was beautiful. I love experiencing different countries and cultures when I can.
How does Medlec support work-life balance?
The flexibility here is fantastic. Christian understands working hours that fit around school runs and family commitments. It makes such a difference having that support.
What's your approach to your role?
I like everything to be organised and in order - it's essential in finance. While my role might seem behind the scenes, accurate invoicing is necessary to keep the business running smoothly and ensure the money comes in and people get paid.
