A Day In The Life of Allison Sinclair, Operations Manager
At Medlec, our operational excellence stems from strong leadership. As Operations Manager, Allison Sinclair oversees the systems and processes that keep our growing business running smoothly, from fleet management to ISO accreditations.
How long have you been with Medlec, and what's your role?
After 12 years in the plumbing industry, I joined Medlec Group five years ago. I could see where Christian wanted to take the business and how he wanted it to grow, and I decided I wanted to be part of that journey. It's been a very rewarding experience.
Could you walk us through a typical day?
In operations, every day brings different challenges. I oversee everything from fleet management and HR to payroll and procurement. My role includes managing vehicle operations, onboarding new team members, overseeing IT systems, and ensuring health and safety compliance. I also handle HR compliance and contribute to developing new procedures as we grow.
What's been your most rewarding project?
Achieving our ISO 9001 and 14001 accreditations earlier this year was a massive achievement. It involved input from everyone across the business, and it validates that we're working to the highest standards. It was a significant milestone that confirmed we're doing everything correctly.
What's the most challenging aspect of your role?
Managing multiple priorities while ensuring everyone has what they need to succeed. I'm constantly reviewing our processes to make things run more smoothly, supporting our team members, and looking for ways to improve our operations.
What's the best thing about working with the Medlec team?
The family atmosphere we've created. From our office team to our engineers on the road, everyone's approachable and works together brilliantly. If someone needs support, the whole team steps in to help.
We've developed a really collaborative environment where everyone understands their role in our success.
How has the industry changed since you joined Medlec?
Our workload has increased dramatically as we've grown, and with that growth comes higher client expectations, particularly around response times. The team has adapted wonderfully, finding new ways to meet these challenges while maintaining our high standards.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not keeping Medlec running smoothly?
I have nine grandchildren, so family time keeps me very busy! I try to squeeze in a holiday somewhere when I'm not with them.
What aspects of Medlec's future plans excite you?
Our growth has been incredible - we've already expanded into an additional building since I started, and I can see us outgrowing that soon. The fleet is constantly increasing, and as we grow into different services, we're adding other types of vehicles. It's exciting to be part of a quickly evolving business.
Any final thoughts about working at Medlec?
Everyone here wears multiple hats and can step in to help wherever needed. I made it a priority when I started to learn about each role, which has been invaluable as we've grown. This understanding also extends to our engineers - when they know how the office operates, it helps them. They're our ambassadors when they're out on site, and they represent us brilliantly.
